Community Impact Agenda

Back in 1999, Maui United Way partnered with the County of Maui and Decisions Maui to fund a Health and Human Service Needs Assessment.  The results of that assessment determined the five community impact areas that Maui United Way currently supports and provided a prioritization of those areas.  They are:

  • Basic Needs/Emergency Assistance (which includes substance abuse and domestic violence)

  • Education/Health Education

  • Family Strengthening & Parenting

  • Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly

  • Youth Development

However, as our island grows, so do the needs of our community.  Over the past few years we have experienced economic and social changes that have shifted priorities, creating challenges the priorities from the 1999 assessment.  Therefore, Maui United Way believes the time has come to reassess health and human service needs in Maui.  We will serve as a catalyst to involve residents in:

  • Discussing growing/changing needs;

  • Prioritizing identified needs;

  • Determining key impact areas that Maui United Way should focus support on;

  • Working with existing or creating new partnership to address identified needs and impact areas; and

  • Mobilizing resources towards root cause and preventative measures on specific health and human service challenges.

We are asking the community to help us by completing a Quick Survey that ranks 12 health and human service need areas.  Please get involved in the process by completing the attached survey and faxing it to 244-8958, or mailing it to us at: 270 Hookahi Street, Ste. 301, Wailuku, HI  96793.

it is important to get broad participation so the data will be as reflective of the community at large as possible.

The feedback will contribute to baseline data that will be used in further surveys/focus groups, programs to educate the community on changing and increasing needs, and ultimately to help Maui United Way continue to wisely invest donor contributions where they are needed most.  The results of this survey will be published on this website and in the media.

Working together, we will provide more than temporary solutions; we will provide lasting, positive changes in people’s lives and the community.
